By: E&P Staff Swift Communications subsidiary Oregon Coast Newspapers traded its two Oregon coast weekly newspapers in Tillamook and Lincoln City to Country Media Inc. for two agriculture-oriented papers in South Dakota, it was announced Tuesday.
In the exchange, Country Media gets the Headlight-Herald in Tillamook (8,500 paid circulation) and The News Guard in Lincoln City (6,000 paid circulation).
Reno, Nev.-based Swift gets two niche newspapers in South Dakota: the Tri-State Livestock News in Sturgis, and the Farmer and Rancher Exchange in Pierre.
The swap fills in clusters for both companies, said Dave Gauger of Gauger Media Service Inc., the brokerage firm that facilitated the transaction.
Swift's new ag papers, which have a combined circulation of 40,000 in its Upper Great Plains market, complement its 30,000 paid-circulation ag paper The Fence Post, which publishes three regional editions in the Rocky Mountains, Western Slope, and Nebraska.
Country Media has been publishing in the Oregon coast since it bought the Cannon Beach Gazette last year, Gauger noted.
