'The Hindu' Signs for ppi Media Production Automation

By: E&P Staff The Hindu in Chennai, India, contracted with the ppi Media subsidiary of manroland AG at last week's IFRA Expo in Vienna for production automation that will comprise PlanPag planning software, AdPag classified pagination and AdMan for ad production -- all to be integrated with the CCI NewsDesk editorial system, the ad order entry system developed by the Hindu itself, and IBM's Nica archive.

Installation and integration of the systems will begin in spring for completion by the end of next year.

Among the world's 50 largest dailies, the 111-year-old Hindu is second among India's English-language papers. "Cutting-edge production and a high degree of automation are the basic requirements" for achieving its objective of strengthening its market position and expanding, K. Balaji, director at owner Kasturi & Sons Ltd. said in a statement.
