The New York Times: Alexa Díaz joins Audience

Posted

I am thrilled to announce that Alexa Díaz is joining the Audience team, as a social editor based in Los Angeles, boosting our presence in a state that’s home to a significant — and growing — share of New York Times readers. Alexa will help shape how we share the best of Times journalism to the millions who follow us on social media.

Alexa comes to us from The New York Times for Kids, where she’s worked as a social editor since September 2020. She helped the team to launch and run @nytkids on Instagram, taking the print-only section to an online platform for the first time.

She is a sharp and savvy editor who knows how to best frame stories for off-platform audiences. Alexa’s former managers in Kids, Caitlin Roper and Amber Williams, praised her editorial experience and sharp judgment, her creativity, her strategic and analytic chops and her passion for building community.

“Not only do we trust her news judgment, we rely on her to tell us when we should be covering certain stories and how,” they said, “especially when it comes to events that are interesting and important for younger readers — kids, teens and Gen Z young adults.” Because of those skills, Alexa also assigned and reported articles; built foundational style guides; collaborated with teams across the newsroom, including product and AR; and brought new voices to readers.

Prior to joining The Times, Alexa worked at the Los Angeles Times, where she reported for several desks and served as an editor on the audience engagement team.

Alexa has already started working with the social team — and we’re thrilled to have her — so please join me in, slightly belatedly, welcoming her.
