The New York Times announces journalism mentorship opportunity for college students

Posted

The New York Times Corps, the newsroom’s talent-mentorship program for college students pursuing journalism, is accepting applications for its fourth cohort. U.S.-based students, including international students, who will complete their undergraduate studies in 2027, 2028 or 2029 are eligible to apply.

We match each Times Corps member with a Times journalist, who provides career guidance several times a year over a multiyear period. Occasional speakers and activities, held virtually, punctuate the experience. Those who successfully complete the program earn an all-expenses-paid trip to New York to tour The Times newsroom and meet journalists in person.

The Times Corps is designed for students who would particularly benefit from access to mentorship or career guidance from people in the field. We are especially interested in applications from students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and students who attend colleges or universities, including community colleges, that do not have an established record of sending alumni to The Times.

Since 2022, nearly 60 students at schools in 30 states have participated in the Times Corps. Times Corps students land internships and jobs at newspapers, television and radio stations, and specialty publications across the country. Many hold top editing roles at their college news organizations.

The incoming class, likely about 20 students, is slated to begin the program in late summer.

The application closes at 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, June 20. Applications cannot be revised after they are submitted, and applications received after the deadline will not be considered. The Times Corps is not a paid job. Corps members are not employees of The Times, and they do not produce news or other content for The Times.
