The New York Times announces new hires on Video

Posted

I am excited to welcome several new staff members to the Video desk.

Dylan Collins has joined as a senior producer based in London, overseeing and shaping our daily video news coverage Saturday through Wednesday. He will coordinate, plan and execute coverage of both breaking news and planned events, and program and curate short-form video journalism on our platforms.

Originally from New England, Dylan began his career as a visual journalist more than a decade ago. Prior to joining The Times, Dylan was a senior video journalist with Agence France-Presse (A.F.P.) based in Beirut, where he coordinated coverage across Lebanon and Syria. He managed a network of contributors producing round-the-clock breaking news coverage, live feeds and investigations.

With A.F.P., he led video coverage of major stories including Lebanon’s 2020 port blast, Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the 2024 and 2026 Israel-Hezbollah wars, and the 2024 overthrow of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad. He has also reported on conflicts and crises in the Gaza Strip, Syria, Iraq and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as a U.S. presidential campaign.

Dylan’s front-line reporting in Ukraine and the Middle East has come at significant personal cost. He has sustained injuries in two separate attacks, including in October 2023, when he was wounded in southern Lebanon during an Israeli attack that killed Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah. Since these incidents, he has worked to advance press freedom and protect journalists.

Before A.F.P., Dylan worked as a deputy editor with Al Jazeera in Doha, running shifts on the global news desk. Prior to that, he was the managing editor of Syria Deeply, a single-topic platform covering the country’s civil war. He is fluent in Arabic.

Gaia Lamperti

Gaia Lamperti has joined as a video journalist, covering live and breaking news Saturday through Wednesday. Based in London, she will source video clips and script and edit video stories for our site and off-platform channels.

Gaia joins us from Bloomberg, where she was a news producer based in Dubai working on daily television programming, managing live broadcasts from the field and newsgathering across the Middle East. Her work included covering the Oct. 7 attacks and the war in Gaza, the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, President Trump’s visit to the Gulf and the U.N. climate conferences in Dubai and Baku.

Previously, Gaia worked as a freelance reporter based in London for international outlets including Al Jazeera and Euronews. Her reporting focused on fintech, climate justice, sustainable cities and the future of work.

Originally from Milan, Gaia holds a master’s degree in international journalism from City, University of London. She is fluent in Italian and Spanish and is studying Levantine Arabic.

She will be central to making our best work discoverable and compelling in a mobile, vertical-video format.

Kameryn joins us from CNN, where she worked as a production assistant on the digital video team covering  breaking news. Before that, she was a news associate at CNN working in the fact-checking department and monitoring live video feeds across the world. She started her career covering city council meetings for a hyper-local newspaper in Austin.

She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and an English minor from The University of Texas at Austin, where she led her school newspaper’s video department.

Gini Richards has joined as a video research and clearance manager in New York, where she will serve as a central point of contact for video clearance questions in the newsroom, sourcing third-party and user-generated video for breaking news and enterprise reporting and creating documentation and training on sourcing and clearance best practices.

Gini is a filmmaker, researcher and producer who has 13 years of experience working across a variety of projects in the nonfiction landscape. Since 2018, she has worked as an archival producer on documentaries and docuseries for PBS Frontline, Netflix, CNN, HBO and The New York Times, including Emmy-, Peabody, and Dupont-winning productions. She also co-directed the award-winning documentary short “Soul City.” She graduated from Wake Forest University with an M.F.A. in documentary filmmaking.

Diego Sanchez Chavez

Diego Sanchez Chavez has joined as a news technology specialist based in New York, helping to ensure that the Video department’s technical workflows, resources, tools and technology are efficient, up-to-date and effective. He will work closely with video journalists, producers and editors to troubleshoot operational and technical issues, conduct training on production and post-production systems and assist in adopting new tools.

Before The Times, Diego spent three years at Daily Mail US where he managed equipment, coordinated studio access and streamlined post-production work.

Please join me in welcoming our new hires.
