I am thrilled to announce two changes to the leadership of Opinion’s guest essay team. First, Lauren Kelley has taken over our coverage of health, science, climate and A.I. She takes the reins from Alexandra Sifferlin, who moved to the Science desk in May.
Lauren, a deputy editorial director, has run a large chunk of our guest essay operation with aplomb since 2022, overseeing coverage of subjects as diverse as national politics, immigration, health and the law. Previously she coordinated department-wide coverage of the fall of Roe v. Wade and was a deputy on the editorial board, where she edited much of the board’s coverage of public health in the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic. The incomparable health and science team will report to her.
Succeeding Lauren in her role is John Guida. He joins the guest essay leadership team as a deputy editorial director to run a domestic coverage team whose topics range from politics to policy and law.
John joined Opinion in 2012 as a copy editor. He has commissioned and edited guest essays from a diversity of writers. He has worked with numerous contributing writers, including, for a while, the current vice president of the United States, and former columnists such as Ross Douthat and Frank Bruni. John has also been at the forefront of helping to develop new forms of Opinion journalism, including scorecards, round tables, live chats and Q&As.
We’re thrilled Lauren and John are taking on these responsibilities and congratulate both on their new roles.
