The New York Times today unveiled a redesign of its popular Games app, marking the most significant design refresh since the app debuted in 2009. Originally launched as The Crossword app, our digital playground has grown, thanks to our solvers’ insatiable appetite for fun, challenging and intellectually stimulating games.
The new Games tab in the app is your one place to play our daily puzzles, archives and crossword packs. The introduction of the all-new Games tab brings a fresh, sleek look and a seamless way to access the entire New York Times Games portfolio. What else is in store?
With this redesign, the heart and soul of what solvers have come to love remains unchanged. Your favorite puzzles are all there, now housed within a more intuitive and engaging interface. And this is just the beginning. The updates to the app we’ve undertaken so far establish a foundation upon which exciting future features can be more easily built, with more exciting additions to come later this year.
The New York Times Games app, which was downloaded 10 million times in 2023 alone, is available on both iOS and Android devices. In 2023, our games were played more than eight billion times including The Mini Crossword, which was played more than one billion times. Wordle was played 4.8 billion times, Spelling Bee users reached Genius more than 120 million times and 2.3 billion successful Connections were made.
