The New York Times makes new hire for Op-Docs

Posted

I’m excited to announce that Mahalia Cohen is joining Op-Docs as a senior video editor. In this role, she’ll work closely with Op-Docs filmmakers to help shape and sharpen their edits and storylines, from rough cut to publication. She will also work with the Op-Docs team on the curation of our award-winning series and expanding Op-Docs’s reach within the film industry and beyond.

Mahalia has worked as a director, producer and editor for narrative films and documentaries. Films she produced have screened at festivals around the world, including Sundance, Cannes and Berlinale.

Recently, she worked as a story producer on “The Six Billion Dollar Man” and the PBS series “Caregiving,” as well as a forthcoming documentary about dementia for PBS. Previously, she worked at Topic magazine, overseeing a slate of original documentary programming for Topic’s streaming service.

Mahalia graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with an M.F.A. in film. She also studied directing at La Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, and Spanish literature and sculpture at Bryn Mawr College.

Nov. 2 was Mahalia’s first day. Please join me in welcoming her.
