Announcement from National Editor Philip Rucker, Deputy National Editor Amy Fiscus, Senior Politics Editor Dan Eggen and Deputy Politics Editor Nick Baumann:
We are excited to announce that Annah Aschbrenner has taken on a new assignment as the senior deputy campaign editor on the National Politics desk, bringing her broad experience and her enthusiasm to working with the talented 2024 campaign team in dominating coverage of this deeply consequential election.
Annah will report to campaign editor Sean Sullivan and work closely with him and deputy campaign editor Brianna Tucker to execute high-impact coverage and collaborate with the White House team and others throughout the newsroom to chronicle the 2024 campaign across our platforms and in varied story forms.
Annah is a natural to take on this assignment, having overseen presidential campaign coverage in 2020 at USA Today and in 2016 at the Des Moines Register. She most recently served as The Post’s Congress editor, where her team’s hallmarks have been definitive, scoop-driven coverage on major news such as Kevin McCarthy’s removal as speaker. Under her leadership, the Congress team has excelled at telling the story of Capitol Hill for readers outside the Beltway in authoritative and accessible ways.
Annah joined The Post in 2022 from USA Today, where she most recently shepherded coverage of the White House, Congress and national politics. During her time there, she also helped run coverage of the special counsel’s Russia investigation, both impeachments of Donald Trump and the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Before that, Annah worked at the Register for six years, running the politics team and later as news director, overseeing coverage of the politics, metro, investigations, business and features teams. In 2017, Annah was named one of Editor & Publisher’s 25 Under 35.
Annah began her journalism career as a high school news clerk at the Muskegon Chronicle in her hometown of Muskegon, Mich. After graduating from Michigan State University, her first job was on the copy desk at the Klamath Falls Herald and News in Oregon.
Please join us in congratulating Annah on her new assignment, which starts immediately.
