The Washington Post will publish two polls in collaboration with ABC News’ FiveThirtyEight and Ipsos this week that will measure opinion among Republican primary voters and caucus goers before and after the first GOP 2024 presidential debate. By polling the same group of voters twice, these surveys will provide valuable insight into how voters perceive candidates’ performances and their chances to secure the Republican nomination.
“We are excited to conduct a set of polls of Republican primary and caucus voters around this first GOP debate,” said Emily Guskin, The Post’s polling analyst. “It’s an approach for a poll that is particularly well-suited to capture change. This level of additional insight provides a real-time look at how opinions may shift after a debate.”
“The Washington Post-FiveThirtyEight-Ipsos poll is just one example of the innovative and dynamic ways The Post is covering the 2024 presidential election with data and analysis,” Rachel Van Dongen, elections director at The Post, said.
The Washington Post/FiveThirtyEight/Ipsos poll published at 6 a.m. ET on Aug. 23, the day of the debate, with the second, post-debate poll coming midafternoon on Thursday, Aug. 24.
