An announcement from Zachary Goldfarb, Climate and Environment Editor, and Juliet Eilperin, Deputy Climate and Environment Editor:

We are thrilled to announce that Simon Ducroquet has been promoted to visual enterprise editor for the Climate and Environment Department. In his new role, Simon will oversee cutting-edge journalism that employs data analysis and visualization, mapping, 3D modeling, animation, interactive graphics, video and illustration to reveal the world around us.

Simon, who started at The Post as a graphics assignment editor in November 2021 and joined Climate as a senior graphics reporter in the summer of 2022, has played an instrumental role in some of our most ambitious visual storytelling. He has a rare combination of talents, mixing visual journalism, spatial thinking and coding, which he’s leveraged to build compelling immersive pieces that depict our changing environment in revelatory ways.

His work over the past few years has integrated interactive models with photos and videos, revealing everything from how British architecture faces a stress test in a hotter world to the unequal impact of heat in Kolkata and how microplastics enter the human body. Simon has also made complex scientific dynamics more accessible, whether it’s how the sediment in Canada’s Crawford Lake shows humans’ impact on the planet or what a single tide gauge in Georgia tells us about global sea level rise.

Simon can also move quickly when disasters hit, helping capture how a toxic derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, unfolded and the extent to which Hurricane Helene decimated North Carolina’s forests.

Please join us in congratulating Simon. He starts immediately.
