By: E&P Staff Press manufacturer TKS announced at Nexpo that it is moving from its Tamagawa facility to a new, $84 million factory it will build on 16.7 acres it purchased in an industrial park in Japan's Chiba prefecture.
The site -- TKS's Kazusa Techno Center -- will house 300 employees woriking in a research and development center and manufacturing operation. With inspections and permitting now accomplished, construction begins in October, and the plant is to go into operation in April of 2009.
TKS said it began a site search in response to "rapid change in the community surrounding the Tamagawa factory and redevelopment plans for the area. With selection of the new site, the company said it has developed a plan for the earnings potential of its existing site: development of a "large multi-purpose commercial complex" where one plant now stands on six acres and a high-rise condominium at the 2.2-acre location of the second Tamagawa plant.
In eastern Japan, close to Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports, the new Kazusa Techno Center complements TKS's Iga Techno Center in western Japan. The company said the locations reflect "a strategic decision" to prevent production from being curtailed "in the event a major calamity occurs."
