By: E&P Staff Today the New York Post hit back at the New York Daily News, alleging that Daily News hawkers have been ?dumping an untold number [of copies] in the trash" and counting them as circulation.
The Post claims that the Daily News has been abusing its third-party sponsored program paid for by New York Waterway, a company that runs the city's ferries. The article said that a Post scribe ?witnessed hawkers, who had been trying to give away copies, at the South Hoboken station tossing hundreds of unwanted Daily News into a trash dumpster.?
Eileen Murphy, a spokeswoman for the Daily News, told the Post: ?'We believe this is a program that is consistent with ABC rules.?
