Unisys' Hermes 10 Goes into L.A. Group

By: E&P Staff The Los Angeles Newspaper Group selected Unisys to help provide its publications with improved workflows, productivity enhancements, and multipurposing of data. The contract calls for Unisys, based in Blue Bell, Pa., to provide its Media Ensemble editorial solution featuring Hermes 10, consulting, systems integration, and training.

With a total of 611 seats, the newspaper group will deploy Hermes 10 at the Los Angeles Daily News, Long Beach Press-Telegram, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, San Bernadino County Sun, Pasadena Star-News, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin (Ontario), Redlands Daily Facts, The Whittier Daily News and Impacto.

Implementation will include centralized Sun Microsystems servers and will integrate a common Oracle database. The new system is designed to paginate all of properties, improve information sharing and distribution, and set earlier deadlines to market in very competitive areas.

Designers at LANG's dailies and specialized products will use the Adobe InDesign CS and InCopy CS, the page-layout and editorial tools integrated with Hermes 10.
