Wisconsin's 'Fitchburg Star' to Go Online-Only This Week

By: E&P Staff The Fitchburg (Wis.) Star, a biweekly paper, will publish its last edition Thursday and go online-only.

Editor Kurt Gutknecht confirmed the end of the Star's print edition Saturday, telling the Wisconsin State Journal that the paper would stop publishing a print edition, but its Web site, fitchburgstar.com, would remain.

The Star has been published since 1975 and serves the city of Fitchburg, located at the southern edge of the state capital, Madison. Sine 1998, the paper has been owned by Woodward Communications as part of its Unified Newspaper Group. Based in Dubuque, Iowa, Woodward also publishes Wisconsin weeklies the Verona Press, Oregon Observer and Stoughton Courier-Hub.
