By: Jennifer Saba The Albuquerque Publishing Co. is printing 8,000 daily copies of The Wall Street Journal for distribution in New Mexico including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Roswell. The copies were previously printed in the Journal's facilities in Denver and Dallas and shipped via air to New Mexico.
This is the second partnership the Journal has struck with another newspaper printing plant due mainly to the Journal's new 48-inch web width format. It's previous 60-inch web width size made it more difficult to contract printing jobs. In February, the Journal announced the Maui News in Hawaii would print its Hawaii editions. The Journal is printed in 17 of its own printing plants.
"Having the ability to print locally ensures a more timely delivery of the Journal six days a week," Larry Hoffman, vice president of production for the Journal, said in a statement. "We are providing better customer service in these markets, while reducing our delivery and production costs."
The Albuquerque Publishing Co. operates the independently-owned Albuquerque Journal and E.W. Scripps' The Albuquerque Tribune.
The Journal will continue printing at its Dallas and Denver facilities. Dallas serves most of Texas, Oklahoma, and parts of Kansas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Denver prints papers for distribution in Colorado, and parts of Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Nebraska.
