Yahoo today announced the appointment of Rob Gelick as general manager of Yahoo Mail, to lead its operations and product innovation. Gelick joins Yahoo with over 25 years of experience advancing the global digital media landscape for large scale iconic brands including CBS, Showtime, PlutoTV, Motorola, and most recently as chief product officer at Paramount.

“Millions of people rely on Yahoo Mail to organize their busy lives, and Rob will play a pivotal role as we continue to evolve the Mail business,” said Matt Sanchez, president and general manager of Yahoo Home Ecosystem. “Rob has a proven track record of leading strategic product direction across platforms, and this experience will be key in driving the Yahoo Mail business forward.”

Reporting to Sanchez, Gelick will oversee initiatives that further advance and refine Yahoo Mail with more ways to stay informed, organized and connected to the full suite of Yahoo’s core consumer businesses including Search and News.

“This is an incredible opportunity to engage Yahoo Mail’s passionate global user base, solving for their communication needs and driving scale for the business,” said Gelick. “I’ve spent my career pioneering innovative consumer services, and I’m looking forward to bringing my expertise to the company.”

Prior to joining Yahoo, Gelick served as chief product officer at Paramount where he oversaw the strategic product direction of its global streaming portfolio of direct-to-consumer subscription and free ad-supported video services including Paramount+, Showtime and Pluto TV, as well as multi-platform digital experiences for CBS, BET, MTV, Nickelodeon and more. In that role, he spearheaded the launch of CBS All Access, and its subsequent transformation to Paramount+, along with the integration of Showtime, expanding it to over 40 international markets and scaling the business from zero to over 67.5M subscribers worldwide. Earlier in his tenure at the company, Gelick served as executive vice president and general manager of CBS Entertainment Digital where he oversaw the development and launch of CBS All Access, and later drove its transition to Paramount+. Gelick first joined the company as the GM of Mobile, leading the company’s entry into emerging platforms and new distribution channels.

Before joining CBS Interactive, Gelick was on the founding executive team as vice president of media and social products at Helio, where he spearheaded a portfolio of mobile social networking and media services including the industry’s first comprehensive YouTube Mobile offering. Prior to that, he spent nearly eight years in design and product planning at Motorola Mobile Devices, where he pioneered many of the world’s first mobile commerce and entertainment offerings and partnerships.
