Meta Platforms faces an investigation from the U.K.’s competition regulator over potential new business terms that would allow the company to collect content from publishers to power its own products such as artificial intelligence tools.
The Competition and Markets Authority said Friday that Meta’s potential terms change could unfairly harm publishers and advertisers that use its popular social media platforms.
The planned terms, which Meta has since put on hold, could allow the company to collect content from the websites of publishers without offering them a choice about if or how their content is used.
