Chieftain shutting down Pueblo printing facility in August

Posted

The Pueblo Chieftain’s printing operation in downtown Pueblo, Colorado, will be shuttered in August and more than 50 employees will be laid off from their positions, the Chieftain’s parent company Gannett announced Tuesday.

Printing and packaging of the Chieftain and other Gannett properties currently printed in Pueblo will move to the Denver Post, with the final issues to be printed in Pueblo on Sunday, Aug. 13, for the Monday, Aug. 14 newspaper. The Denver Post will begin producing the paper that same day on Aug. 14.

With the change, 51 employees — 25 full-time and 26 part-time — involved in the Chieftain’s printing and packaging operation were informed Tuesday that once the transition is complete, their employment with the company will end.
