From Editor for Emerging Products & Audio Sarah Feldberg:

Candid conversations with Chronicle journalists. Live podcast tapings with bold Bay Area voices. A trivia battle to test your local knowledge.

They’re all part of The San Francisco Chronicle’s new event series: Chronicle Live at Manny’s.

Every month, The Chronicle will host a live, in-person event at Manny’s restaurant and community space in the Mission, showcasing Chronicle journalists, discussing the most pressing issues in San Francisco and having a little fun along the way.

“Manny's has become a critical gathering place for the community to come together and both discuss the key issues we face but to also just gather and have a good time,” said Chronicle Editor-in-Chief Emilio Garcia-Ruiz. “We are delighted to be able to partner with them.”

The series kicks off Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 6:30 p.m. with The Chronicle’s first-ever Data Trivia Night. Data Editor Dan Kopf, Columnist and Culture Critic Peter Hartlaub and other special guests will test players on their knowledge of San Francisco and Bay Area data, from local population stats to sports to weather data in a normal year.

Teams of two to six people can compete, with registration $5 per person or $20 per team, whatever’s cheaper. Prizes will go to the top three teams, including an announcement in The Chronicle heralding the Bay Area’s top data nerds. Want to test your local knowledge? Click here to register.

“Manny’s is the perfect place for an institution like The San Francisco Chronicle to choose to host this series of exciting in-person events, and I couldn’t be more honored to do it,” said Manny’s owner Manny Yekutiel. “The Chronicle, with its storied history, shares a very similar goal to ours: inform the public and engage them on the issues that matter.”

The second Chronicle Live at Manny’s on Thursday, Feb. 16, will feature a live taping of The Chronicle’s flagship daily news podcast Fifth & Mission with host Cecilia Lei, in celebration of the show’s 1,000th episode.

The series will return in March and monthly throughout 2023. Stay tuned for upcoming event details.
